You can almost smell them. Some of my best reads came through scrounging around second-hand bookshops or the ignored bookshelf at an ignored resort. I discovered Frank Herbert’s Dune books that way, but even though I do like a bit of sci-fi and am tempted (often) to write it – noir, remains my favorite.
