Life’s, goings on.

It's been a while...

It has been a long while - for someone who makes a living out of marketing, I am incredibly crap at it in the author game. I hope you don't think that's because I don't appreciate you - I sincerely do - each and every one of you.

Two thousand seventeen and two thousand eighteen were (are) both really tough years business-wise and that has impacted my "free" time dramatically. I put 'free' in speech marks because I never really have any free time; there is always something to do. So writing which I love, but requires immense effort and time has had to take a backseat while I get the business back on track.

Back in early July I did manage to get a lovely little break away from the city. I took my son, Nicholas, (Nick) and dog, Yuri, to Koh Chang, where we hung out with my brother and his lovely wife, Bernadette. She shot the video that you can see below; where you can also see me inspecting my new second-hand yacht on the beach at Koh Chang.

We all agreed that the timing of the holiday, off-season, windy and raining - was perfect because there were very few tourists, and the weather was cool enough to sleep without aircon.

As you can see from the video we also cleaned up the area around the hut where we were staying. A little "eco-warrior" shit right there :). Some of the garbage was what you might call natural but still bad for the environment, natural meaning broken fishing nets etc., but a large amount was simply plastic bottles and other very avoidable trash. Sad; and I hope future generations are better than ours.

You'll figure out who the 'white guy' is  in the video, but that also causes huge problems for our oceans. If you're going on a holiday somewhere like Koh Chang I think it's cool to take an afternoon (after a few cocktails) and clean up the area around you.

On Writing

Writing has been slow, but there has been and continues to be writing. And all of it is on Bangkok Heat. I don't dare start another project for fear of running away on it and I really want to try to get Heat done this year - work/life permitting.

It has been hard because my style of writing is immersive - I get into it big time with the movie reeling in my head; and when you have significant issues in real-life it is difficult to immerse.

But, like I said, I have been writing and 'Heat' is coming along nicely, but slowly - shooting for this year, but I also said that last year so we'll see how we go.

On Play

You can't work all the time, especially if the work is brain intensive; I have this principle which is called, Diminished Return Point (DRP). And what this means is that at some point the value of the work you are doing has diminished to the point where there is little or no value - as such you should stop and do something else.

My something else has been (and is) PUBG - for those of you who don't know what that is, "Player's Unknown Battlegrounds". It is loosely based on the cult classic by Japanese director, Kinji Fukasaku, Battle Royale

If you play PUBG then drop me a line, and friend me either via the game or Steam - my handle is: FoginBgk, which stands for "Fucking Old Guy in Bangkok" - and we can play together as a duo, or if there are more we can form a four person squad. A reminder my email is [email protected]

That's it for now I'll try and remember to keep you guys better informed on progress and things going on.

As per usual stay safe, and keep having happy days.

  1. Glad to hear you are still at it Simon. I’ve had a couple of years of ‘change’, as I call it, too. Embrace it they say, okay but will it embrace me back. I bloody hope not. Here’s to you old chap.

      Hi Andrew,
Great to hear from you and I hope you are well. I will raise my glass to you this evening, um, make that early afternoon, which would be now – a Thai-ito I think.
