Why I will not be using Facebook anymore #DeleteFacebook

I started using FB back in 2007/8, according to the timeline. I used it personally, encouraged others to do the same, and used it for business. In business one of our sites has 30,000 followers and every time we post we get good replies. The majority of that 30,000 has grown organically. I also have an author page and active fans there.

As readers of my website and FB page would know, I called the Robert Mercer, Cambridge Analytica deal about six months ago – I was surprised it took the FBI, and everyone else, so long to get there. Robert and his daughter Rebecca are evil, the defacto head of white supremacy groups in the USA (and therefore the world). No two ways – pure evil, and Facebook collaborated with them to sell data and make money off it.

The reasoning of MZ, we have to sell your data to pay for the free parts, is ridiculous. Likewise, his, and Sandberg’s response to the exposure – lies, evasion, and arrogance – yes, we are “dumbfucks”.

I will not delete my personal page, because I believe all the data within it has been sold and copied already – I will not be adding to it. And I will keep FB Messenger, especially since…

And I use it to talk to family and friends free of charge around the globe (so hopefully I will start costing them money). But, everything else will go.

The effort that we put into the FB pages will go into our own company websites (where we truly NEVER sell ANY data); and other more responsible channels of engagement with the wider world. In each case we will thoroughly study what is done with our and our “users” data before we engage.

We are inflexible on this, but we are not rigid with regards to the future. We hope that our very small symbol of resistance to these flagrant abuses of personal privacy adds to a change in behavior – we will not be holding our breath.
